26 June to 1 July (6 Day Course)

Do you have a passion for protecting environment? In this course, we will be exploring the world of marine conservation in Singapore. You will be able to learn about the different types of equipment and technology used to preserve local marine ecosystems.

There will also be a visit to the local islands around Singapore.

This unique course is jointly organised by Van Oord, Tropical Marine Science Institute, Intel Singapore and the IDEAS Hub.

Jaede Tan is a Regional Director at App Annie and drives business development and sales efforts across India, Southeast Asia and Australasia. He has over a decade of experience across Asia, Europe and the Middle East developing commercial relationships in the investment and mobile sectors. Jaede is an expert on the key role App Annie data plays in strategic decision making, especially for companies looking to grow in the fast moving industry of mobile apps.
Before joining App Annie, he was Senior Vice President at Deltec Capital Limited in Hong Kong. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics and Economic History from University of Bristol.

From Ideas to Innovation (Talk & Workshop) 17 May 2017

 

The IDEAS hub will be hosting the team from the Augmented Human Lab from the Singapore University of Technology and Design. They will be sharing ways of creating enabling human-computer interfaces as natural extensions of our body, mind and behaviour.

In this participatory design session, participants will brainstorm and take part in several co-design activities.  The focus will be on training the participants  to look at problems in a creative way.  They will learn how to apply  design thinking approach  (discover, define, develop and deliver) to explore innovative ways of using technology to  support new learning experiences.

This means you get to try out some of their cool innovations!

The session will be led by Prof Suranga who has won many awards including young inventor under 35 (TR35 award) in the Asia Pacific region by MIT TechReview, Outstanding Young Persons of Sri Lanka (TOYP), and INK Fellowship 2016.

IDEAS Hub May Workshops

Join us this May at the IDEAS Hub! We have 3 great workshops just for you. This is open to all staff, students and alumni of UWC.

1) Upholstery 101
13 May | 10.30am to 1.30pm (Saturday)

Meet our resident sewing artist, Sonal Sinha. She’ll be sharing with you some basic tips and tricks on how to style up your old furniture.

2) Arduino Projects Show & Tell *For IDEAS Hub Volunteers Only*
13 May | 2pm to 3.30pm (Saturday)

This session will wrap up the Intel Arduino 101 sessions held earlier this month. Come show off your latest inventions that you made using arduino.

3) Woodworking 101 *Train the Trainers Workshop*
27 May | 9am to 1pm (Saturday)

This special workshop by carpenter extraordinaire, Ian Bellhouse is perfect for those who have a passion for both woodworking and mentoring.Learn the basics of carpentry in this 3 hour session.

Young Makers Summit 9 May 2017

Join us for a morning to help celebrate the work of multiple organisations that support and nurture young makers in Singapore.

Co-organised by the IDEAS Hub UWCSEA, Intel Singapore and the Science Centre Singapore, the Young Makers Summit will showcase organisations and groups of young makers who are using technology to create innovative solutions to many of the issues facing the world today.

Associate Prof Lim Tit Meng (CEO, Singapore Science Centre) will speak about the “Singapore Maker Extravaganza”. Roz Hudnell (President, Intel Foundation), will speak about the Intel’s Innovation Generation programme and share more about their “Make Tomorrow” program for young makers.

The final part of the event will be an opportunity to visit multiple student groups showcasing their projects. The students include groups from NUS, NTU, Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, SUTD and UWCSEA.
