Be part of the first ever LEGOx UWCSEA Bricks to Big Ideas Challenge where students have the opportunity to create innovative building experiences with LEGO. Winners of this challenge have the opportunity to be part of a global initiative! Stand a chance to win LEGO products worth $2000 and a possibility of showcasing your innovation at LEGO Stores!  

This competition is open to UWCSEA students from Grade 6 to 12 (12 to 18 years of age).

**Only Semi Finalists will need to download forms. These forms will be released once the Semi Finalists have been chosen on 29 September. To qualify as a Semi Finalist, teams will need to submit an audition video first.

Who should join this competition?

LEGO LOVERS! Anyone who loves problem solving. If you have a keen interest for business and how innovation works in big companies, this is your chance to learn more through a fun competition!

Who can join this competition?

Any UWCSEA student (Dover & East) from Grades 6-12. 

What are the prizes?

The champions of the competition will win LEGO products worth $2000 and a possibility of showcasing their innovation at LEGO Stores.

When will this competition take place?

It will run from 11 September to 17 November.

How many students per team can we have?

You may have up to 4 members. You can have 2, 3 or 4 members but 4 is recommended. 

What do you expect from the 1 min video about "Your Favourite LEGO Story" for the auditioning round?

Tell any story you like! It could be about anything under the sun as long as it relates to LEGO.

What are the Audition Video Judging Criteria ?

  • 20%  - Creativity
  • 20% – Originality
  • 20% – Understanding of the LEGO Brand and its Values
  • 25% – Quality of presentation/story
  • 15% – X factor :D

How should we make the video?

It can be in various formats! Animation, film, stop motion. You may make the video in the anyway you like. The IDEAS Hub Green Screen Rooms are available to be used should you wish to borrow equipment in school. 

What are the Important Dates I need to be aware of?

Audition Rounds:11 September to 22 Sepetmber. 
Top 6-8 Semi Finalists Announcement: 29th of September
*LEGO Office Visit: 6 Oct (4pm to 6pm)
Optional Talks by LEGO E-Commerce Global Lead & LEGO Master Builder: 11 Oct and 31 Oct (5.30pm to 6.30pm)@ IDEAS Hub Dover
Final Presentation & Judging: 17th of November (6.30pm to 8.30pm)

*The LEGO Office visit is optional but highly encouraged. In this session, semi finalists teams will be able to meet the LEGO team to learn more about the current innovations they have. This will help them in their project as they develop solutions to the challenges. Transport will be provided to the LEGO Office. Students would need to arrange transport back from the office. 

What are the challenges for Round 2 (for Semi Finalists)?

Semi Finalists will need to answer 2 current business challenges faced by LEGO. They will be able to engage with business teams at LEGO Singapore. They would also have a chance to meet regional and global directors who will share their knowledge of the toy industry with them!  

What happens when my team gets selected as semi finalists?

Semi Finalists Teams have the opportunity to visit the LEGO Office at South Beach Road, attend talks by LEGO creative and regional directors. They will also be given brick sets to use in generating ideas for their project.

Do I need to know a lot about business to be part of the challenge especially as a semi finalist? If I am a younger student I wouldn't know much about it...

Not to worry! We have friendly student mentors (Grade 10-12) who will be able to guide you on how to best answer the business challenges. Participants will receive helpful tips from the organising team. Just come with an open mind. We'll help you along the way. Enjoy the process of learning (:

How many prizes do the winning team get?

The overall winning team members will get up to $2000 worth of LEGO each. This means up to 4-5 boxes of LEGO a person.
